Enrichment Opportunities

Enrichment at St John and St Francis Church School

At St John and St Francis Church School, we aim to develop every child's academic and character development through our curriculum and to enhance this through educational visits, educational visitors and by providing a wide range of opportunities to further develop their areas of interest and talent - we endeavour to offer a rich learning experience in its widest sense.

Enrichment Calendar

Music

We all enjoy music at St John and St Francis Church School whether it be in our weekly music lessons, singing in collective worship each day, taking part in festivals and performances such as Harvest at St Francis Church, Christmas performances, Easter Services, Leavers’ services, sharing assemblies with our families or our Year 6 extravaganza production. We work closely with Somerset Music who not only supports our music teaching and staff training and development but also provides our pupils with the opportunities to learn piano or ukulele as an extra enrichment opportunity outside of their weekly music lessons. We also have a budding choir run by a Somerset Music specialist. St John and St Francis has also been re-awarded the ‘Music Mark’ accreditation for its work in offering our pupils a rich diet of music, both in the curriculum and in the broader sense with our enrichment offer.

Sport

We have a broad sporting offer at St John and St Francis Church School with high quality teaching from our class teachers who receive regular training from specialist coaches, Premier Sports and Inspire Coaching. Children also have a wide range of extra-curricular sporting clubs on offer each week ranging from gymnastics, dance, football, rugby, netball, archery and multi-sports clubs. Children also have a chance to compete in a range of inter-school sporting events such as football and cross-country. Sports Days and Sport, Health and Well-Being Week are also a highlight of our sporting calendar, and everyone gets a chance to take part whether it be from specialist coming in to deliver workshops such as Indian dance and street surfing to visiting the local YMCA for experiences in caving, climbing, abseiling, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, frisbee golf, low ropes, team building and segways.
